Education

Digital marketing for schools, universities and tutors that fills places.

I help schools, universities and tutors reach the parents and students who are looking for them, through Google Ads, Meta Ads and websites that turn interest into enquiries, visits and applications.

Education marketing

Education marketing from the person who does the work

Choosing a school, a course or a tutor is a big decision, and most people start it with a search. Parents compare options for months. Students weigh up courses on their phones. If you are not visible while they are looking, the place goes elsewhere.

I work with education providers as a freelance specialist. You deal with me directly, your budget goes into campaigns and not account management, and I judge success by enquiries, visits and applications, not clicks.

The challenges

Why marketing for schools and universities is different

Three things set education apart from most sectors.

Two audiences, one decision

Parents and students look for different things, and for under 18s it is usually the parent who gets in touch. I build separate messages for each, so a parent sees care, results and fees, and a student sees the course and where it leads.

Everything runs to a calendar

Open days, application deadlines, Clearing and exam season create short windows when demand peaks. I plan budgets around the academic year, so spend is highest when people are deciding and not spread evenly across months when nobody is looking.

Tight budgets, more competition

Falling pupil numbers in many areas, VAT on independent school fees and more choice for students mean more providers chasing the same families, often on small marketing budgets. I put spend behind the searches and audiences most likely to enquire, and show you what each enquiry cost.

Enrolment

From first search to enrolled student

A click is not an enrolment. The route from a search to a filled place has several steps, and most marketing only measures the first one.

How I turn interest into enrolments

Advertising to under 18s. Google and Meta both restrict how ads can be targeted at under 18s. I plan campaigns for schools, colleges and tutors around those rules from the start, which usually means reaching parents first.

FAQ

Digital marketing for schools, universities and tutors: common questions

It covers the channels that help families find and choose your school: paid search, paid social, a website that answers their questions and tracking that shows which activity leads to enquiries and visits. Most schools do not need everything at once. I start with the channel most likely to fill the places you have.

I support in-house marketing teams with specialist paid media, landing pages and tracking for specific courses, open days or Clearing. It works well when your team has the strategy and needs an experienced pair of hands on the campaigns. [Add any university or college experience here.]

Yes. Most tutoring enquiries start with a local or subject search, such as a GCSE maths tutor in a named town. I set up tightly targeted Google Ads, a simple page that explains what you offer and tracking for calls and forms, on a budget that suits a small business.

Usually not. Google excludes schools, academic institutions and universities from its nonprofit programme, even when they are registered charities. Other educational charities can qualify, and I manage a grant account for one of them. If you are not sure where you stand, I can check for you.

It depends on your enrolment cycle. Schools usually need the most activity before open days and registration deadlines, universities around application deadlines and Clearing, and tutors at the start of term and before exams. I plan the year with you so the budget follows demand.

It depends on your area, the competition and how many places you need to fill. I work backwards from what an enrolled student is worth to you and how many enquiries it takes to win one. [Add your minimum monthly ad budget, if you have one.]
